Host your own CAKE PICNIC with an invite template
My one and only claim to fame may be this: I attended an official CAKE PICNIC event in San Francisco in 2025. There were 2,000 (!) cakes on a bunch of long folding tables and so. many. people. It was fun, chaotic, and made me so glad I carry baby wipes in my purse because my hands were covered in frosting by the time the event was over.
Here is a little snapshot of the day:
I came home with a pizza box full of cake (see above), and a yearning in my heart to recreate the event in my neighborhood. So, with the help of a friend, we planned a neighborhood cake party at our local park. Everyone brought their own cake and a tupperware and we sat on picnic blankets and chatted.
Guess what? Even though it wasn’t as Instagram-worthy, this was by far my favorite of the two events!

At the actual CAKE PICNIC, we got a timed window to fill our pizza boxes with as much cake as possible. Gulp. As you can imagine, it was pretty crowded and messy. (And being a sentimental person—I felt a little sad that people had spent so much time on these cakes just for them to be totally destroyed in less than a minute.)
At the neighborhood party, everyone went around and shared the story of their cake. We heard about flavors, mishaps, and memories. We brought our plates to our picnic blankets and chatted while we ate. It made for a perfect Saturday morning.
This is a great event because it’s so scalable! If you want to invite 50 people, great. Everyone brings their own cake, so you automatically have what you need. If it’s 5 friends in a park, also great. There is really no going wrong here!
